2012 European Year for Active Ageing ( and solidarity between generations)
What is EY2012 |
This year has been deemed by the European Commission as the Year of Active Ageing. This follows on from studies by the World Health Organisation showing that with an ever increasing proportion of older people, there will be a great strain on healthcare resourcing unless those growing older lead more active lives. Research also shows that although life expectancy for a 65 year old may have increased to 15 years, a large proportion of that time will be lived in a state of 'disability' of some form that seriously inhibits participation in normal city life. If the elderly lead reasonably active lives, which may just be regular walks, their 'healthy' lifespan will increase. |
